Losing a parent may be one of life’s most difficult experiences. Sometimes a poem can make the task of eulogizing a beloved father just a little bit easier. The loss of a dad is especially poignant when it happens while a child is still young. Even after the initial grief subsides, the loss is still felt through every passing year.

The Best Dad

I recall when I was a kid,
I want to grow up like my dad;
It doesn’t matter how what he did
It could be good or maybe bad.

But you are simply the best dad,
the best gift that I ever had;
you have given your all for me,
Your love I’ve tasted and see.

What Makes a Dad
God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle’s flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,
He called it … Dad

Perhaps we’ll never understand each other.
Loving doesn’t mean that we agree.
If that were so, then I would say, why bother?
But there are things I know I’ll never see.
I’m sure your heart knows what I don’t yet know:
The pain of loving a reluctant son;
The anger, coming fast and building slow,
Of being helpless to control someone.
You want only that I grow up right,
But you know what right is, and I still don’t.
I have to learn to wield my inner light,
And if I follow yours, well, then I won’t.
I’m sorry for the anger in the air;
Though we fight, my love is always there.

A Dad is a person
who is loving and kind,
And often he knows
what you have on your mind.
He’s someone who listens,
suggests, and defends.
A dad can be one
of your very best friends!
He’s proud of your triumphs,
but when things go wrong,
A dad can be patient
and helpful and strong
In all that you do,
a dad’s love plays a part.
There’s always a place for him
deep in your heart.
And each year that passes,
you’re even more glad,
More grateful and proud
just to call him your dad!
Thank you, Dad…
for listening and caring,
for giving and sharing,
but, especially, for just being you!
Happy Father’s Day

Happy Fathers Day

A Father Means…
A Father means so many things…
An understanding heart,
A source of strength and support right from the very start.

A constant readiness to help
in a kind and thoughtful way.
with encouragement and forgiveness,

No matter what comes your way.
A special generosity and always affection, too.
A father means so many things
When he’s a man like you…

Fathers Day Poems For Deceased Dads From Daughter

I won’t immortalize you in the stars
Because they fade away
I won’t remember you with a poem
for it will be forgotten on day
I will just keep you safe in my heart
So that you are with me in every way…

Fathers Day Poems For Deceased Dads From Daughter

The time we had, Dad,
Wasn’t nearly enough
To pack in an entire
Lifetime of love.

There are so many questions
That I need answers to,
But now that you’re gone
There’s no way to ask you.

But there are still photos
To remember you by,
Each time I look at them,
I still want to cry.

They say grief is easier
to bear as time goes by,
But the doesn’t stop me
from wondering why?

Why my dear, sweet dad
Was taken so soon,
When he was my guiding star,
My sun and my moon.

There are no answers
To a question like this,
So I’ll cherish your memory,
And mourn the years we’ll miss.

I was only eight years old
When mom told me had you died.
I didn’t fully know what it meant.
I felt numb, but I still cried.

I didn’t know how big a hole
your passing would leave.
I didn’t understand how much loneliness
I was about to receive.

As the years have gone by,
I’ve forgotten a few things,
Like the sound of your voice,
And how your laughter used to ring.

I can’t remember exactly what
It was like when you held me,
But I do remember it left me with
A feeling of warmth and security.

My first birthday spent without you
Was hardest after you where gone.
That first Christmas just wasn’t the same,
And it remains so as the years go on.

There have been thousands of times
When I’ve wished you were still hear,
To celebrate all of my joys,
And help me calm my fear.
